Raney is an indie rock band from Little Rock, Arkansas, built on layered guitars, strong melodies and songs meant to feel lived-in.
It started in March of 2023, in a room above a garage that was only ever meant to hold demos. Six friends who had played in other bands in their twenties sat down and asked each other what they actually wanted this to be. Nobody set a deadline. Everybody had a career and a family. As one of them put it later, it was easier to get studio time than practice time.
The songs still start in that room. Ideas get built there late at night, sent out to the group, and come back with melodies and words on them. There are more of them in the archive than the band has played.
Healing came first, in February of 2026, written out of the very personal experience of grieving someone close. It picked up rotation on 104.9 The X and across the WNRN network, and a review in Obscure Sound. Go With You followed in May. The band is back in the studio now.
The first show sold out the White Water Tavern in June of 2026. Five originals, three of them never played in public before. Full Moon Fest in Conway followed in July, and White Water again in August with Local Brand and Pett. Most of the band has kids and day jobs. The songs get learned on weeknights, after bedtime.
Every wedding picture has a story. Ours are our parents, leaving in decorated cars at the beginning of the trip. We would like to believe the music adds something to where they went. The cars keep turning up. The songs come out sounding like the road, and nobody planned that either.
